My dad finally got back from Kentucky a couple days ago, so I took my brother and myself over his house for the weekend. Today I had the chance to ransack his cd collection while he was gone, and wound up taking some fab-o selections:

1. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble- Blues at Sunrise

-What can be said that hasn't already been said about this man? God his voice gets me. It's so...blue. I only got through three songs before I had to go to work, but I really loved "Tin Pan Alley (live)" and "Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Love". I'll have to finish the rest tomorrow.

2. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones- Flight Of the Cosmic Hippo

-Amazing. I love the addition of the banjo. And I LOVE their rendition of The Beatles' "Michelle".

3. Joe Jackson- Live 1980/86

-Ok, I'm obsessed with Joe Jackson. And this cd is one of my personal favorites. I remember my dad playing this one like crazy when I was younger. "Breaking Us In Two" and "It's Different For Girls" are wonderful, and of course "Steppin' Out" is as well. It's a slower verison, too. So beautiful.

So much for my record "reviews".

When I was about 8 years-old, my family and I drove down to Orlando, Florida for summer vacation. On our way there, I can vividly remember my dad playing some Joe Jackson, and I was just in LOVE with his voice (it was the first time I really remeber hearing him sing). I wanted my dad to re-play one of the songs that I really liked, but was afraid to ask him becasue I didn't want him to know that I liked his music. So here's what genius me did: I had gotten this Pocahontas cup from Burger King earlier in the day and was looking at it at the time, and there was a Native man on it. So I says to my dad, I says: "Hey dad, can you play that song again? The guy who sings it sounds like what this guy on my cup would sound like".

Yeah Alison, that'll work well...

My dad did comply, but not without laughing I'm sure. I mean, dear lord. My poor parents must've thought I had a few screws loose or something.
